Description
A classic Italian no-bake dessert featuring coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a creamy mascarpone layer, perfect for impressing guests.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- Cocoa powder for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until smooth. Stir in the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Once thickened, remove from heat and let cool.
- In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until it’s smooth and well combined, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
- Combine the cooled espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. One by one, dip each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture for just a few seconds – be cautious not to soak them too long to avoid a soggy texture. Layer the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a rectangular dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone cream. Smooth the top with a spatula, cover, and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
Serve chilled and consider pairing with espresso or dessert wine.
