Description
Deliciously soft and subtly sweet rolls made with rolled oats and molasses, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4–5 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the rolled oats and water. Let them sit for about 30 minutes to absorb and soften.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it rest for 5-10 minutes until bubbly. Add the molasses, brown sugar, and salt to the oat mixture and stir until well combined.
- Stir in the yeast mixture into the oat mixture, mixing well. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough, divide it into equal portions, and shape into rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush the tops with melted butter after baking and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
