Description

A simple recipe for crusty Italian artisan bread without the need for kneading, perfect for soups or enjoyed with butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup lukewarm water
  • 1 ⅛ teaspoons instant dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by dissolving it in ¼ cup lukewarm water with honey, and let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine the flour and remaining lukewarm water in a large bowl, then add the yeast mixture and stir until combined.
  3. Sprinkle in the salt and mix gently without overworking the dough.
  4. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm area for 45 minutes to an hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Transfer the risen dough to a floured baking sheet and score the top with a knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (160°C) and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  8. Cool the bread on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store leftover bread wrapped in foil or in a paper bag at room temperature. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
