Description

Savory beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, Homemade Salisbury Steak is a classic comfort dish that’s easy to prepare and sure to please.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into oval patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add mushrooms and sauté until softened. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to combine.
  4. Gradually add beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer, then return the patties to the skillet. Cover and let simmer for 10-15 minutes until cooked through. Serve hot.

Notes

For a comforting meal, serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
