Description

A delightful introduction to Indian cuisine, this fluffy naan bread complements various dishes or can be enjoyed with butter or garlic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (optional for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add yogurt to the dry ingredients and gradually mix in warm water until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Divide the dough and roll each portion into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Brush rolled naan with olive oil or melted butter, if desired, then cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until puffed and lightly browned.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftover naan in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
