Description

A delightful recipe for homemade bagels that are chewy and customizable, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Toppings (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined, then knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil. Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into bagels. Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  5. Brush the bagels with egg wash and sprinkle your favorite toppings. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow the bagels to cool before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure your yeast is active and have fun experimenting with different toppings.
