- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- Mash the ripe bananas in a large bowl and mix in honey or maple syrup, applesauce, and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently. Fold in walnuts or chocolate chips if desired.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, use plant-based yogurt instead of applesauce. You can also substitute half of the whole wheat flour with almond flour for a gluten-free alternative.
