Description

A delightful twist on classic French toast using sweet and fluffy Hawaiian rolls, soaked in a rich egg mixture, ideal for breakfast or brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Butter for cooking
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half and place them in a baking dish, ensuring they fit snugly together.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined and frothy.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the rolls, ensuring they are well coated. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to soak in.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a generous amount of butter. Cook each roll, cut side down, until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until warm throughout.

Notes

Use slightly stale Hawaiian rolls for better absorption of the egg mixture. Experiment with flavors by adding nutmeg or orange zest.
