Description
A delightful twist on classic French toast using sweet and fluffy Hawaiian rolls, soaked in a rich egg mixture, ideal for breakfast or brunch gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 Hawaiian rolls
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Butter for cooking
- Maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for serving)
Instructions
- Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half and place them in a baking dish, ensuring they fit snugly together.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined and frothy.
- Pour the egg mixture over the rolls, ensuring they are well coated. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to soak in.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a generous amount of butter. Cook each roll, cut side down, until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until warm throughout.
Notes
Use slightly stale Hawaiian rolls for better absorption of the egg mixture. Experiment with flavors by adding nutmeg or orange zest.
