- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- Butter (melted, for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture and knead until smooth (5-7 minutes).
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Boil 10 cups of water and baking soda in a large pot.
- Shape the dough into pretzels, dip in boiling water for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
- Brush pretzels with egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over warm pretzels and brush with melted butter.
