Description

A delightful quick-bread combining the classic flavors of apple fritters with a comforting texture, perfect for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, combine the milk, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground nutmeg. Set aside.
  7. Pour half of the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top. Sprinkle the rest of the brown sugar mixture over the final layer of batter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread just before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with butter or alongside coffee or tea. Store in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to three months.
